Meet Pearl...

I promised you a picture of our new baby chicks and forgot!

So, meet Pearl!
Our first to be named of the five. She has the most white of her chest, so she will be easy to spot. The others look too much alike to name yet.

Here are all of them together...

You've got a friend in me...

It's about time I stamped! Sorry for the lag in crafty posts. And here I was expecting company at any minute and I found time to stamp...and on any given normal day at home, I can't find time. GO FIGURE!

This is for SCS's color challenge this week!
I love to go their for instant inspiration.

And to go along with my bird theme, I'll soon have a picture of some baby chicks to share with you. That's on my list of things to do RIGHT AWAY this morning...go pick up our 5 little chicks. Stay tuned... :)

Scrapbook organzing

Anyone up for some spring organizing in their corners? Sign up for this free class! I'm hoping it will offer me some much needed inspiration!!
That week will be perfect timing to get things organized so I'm ready for a scrapbooking day with a DF!

While your over on her site, check out her Weekend Reading page! I always find a new blog or two to love from her list of links!!

Here's my scrapbook bin of treasures and misc. things I'm saving for scrapbook pages.
I would love to get this organized before May. This is just one area among many that I would love to tackle.

Canvas People

Just heard about this fabulous deal and wanted to share it with everyone! Canvas People is offering a free 8x10 canvas (use this link for the promotion); all you pay for is the shipping which is $14.95. Quite a steal for a canvas! I just ordered mine last evening and can't wait to receive it. I've always wanted to have one of my own photos on a canvas, but the prices are always so high. I think this promotion is just for March, being the offer has "March Promo" in it, so hurry and take advantage of this.

This is the photo I sent in for favorite photo from last summer.

A happy moment without my camera

I entered this on my private scrapbooking blog. This is where I upload pictures and journal for future inspiration for a scrapbook page. I'm thrilled that this class is getting me going on this project again.

Destined for a non-photo scrapbook page!
What do you think?

I didn't bring my camera with me, and later I realized I should have.
Then I told myself this would be a good practice of "living in the moment".
I immediately calmed down and enjoyed every bit of the moment!

My daughter and I went up to the school playground to play ball and run around last evening.

It's about 34*. Clear, no wind.
Running up beside her; she was riding her scooter lickety-split.
She in her pink cowgirl boots, jeans, pink jacket, pink sunglasses and pink hat.
All the pinks pretty much matching.
Cute to the MAX.
Loving all the running around.
Four square.
Kicking the ball back and forth.

Me, happy, smiling and loving all the running around too.
Beautiful sunset behind us.
Beautiful contrails in the sky.
Savoring the precious moments of a child's life.
Living in it.
Not behind it (camera).

Just minutes before, I was inwardly unhappy.
Feeling fat.
Feeling unhealthy.

While running around, I made some resolutions.
Eat better.
Daily FIVE.
FIVE good things per day must be eaten every day.
Less sugar.
Less butter.

Eat better.
Feel better.

Home to play a game of Old Maid with my girls.

Mmmm, this feels so good to write this all up.
No pictures.
Just thoughts.
A well lived memory in my mind.
My cheeks and nose still cold from the night air.

Another inspired card

I wanted to send a card to my friend who came over a couple of weeks ago and helped me make flower pins! Of course, the card needed to have a flower on it, and I loved the inspiration found from this card. My second inspired project from her blog!

April meal planning

I'm in awe that March is almost over. Over. It's been a very fun-filled month, but it didn't feel like it flew by that fast!!

So here I am again, mouth-watering, as I hop from one foodie blog to another and put together my April menu.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Cuban Ropa Vieja (a request from a friend to make this for her!)
Chicken Taquitos w/salsa
Italian Sausage Pie
Creamy Rotini w/ham& asparagus
Cinnamon Sugar pull-apart bread
Mini Frittatas w/ham & cheese
BBQ Chicken Quesadillas
Brown Rice and Black bean casserole
Spaghetti and Meatballs
Baked Ziti
Empanada Pie
Hearty Nachos
Baked Oatmeal
Samoa Girl Scout cookies
No-Bake Cookies & Cream Bars
No-Bake Nutter Butter bars

....and on that note, I'll skip on out of here!
Just thinking about those last few links is making me gain weight!
But the sun is shining, so I'm off for a power walk.

Blogging for Scrapbookers, Prompt #3

Five things I'm loving right now:

*Reading, Tears of the Giraffe, by Alexander McCall Smith
*Shimelle's fun blog I just discovered....
*Because of this class,
*this post in particular has just been bookmarked!
*this post about resetting your compass.
March always starts a new pace of life for me....every year. You'd think I'd be ready for it, but I rarely am. It's hard to adjust to the new pace.

Yep! There are five things listed up there! But just like my day today, where one household job led to another, so, one favorite "thing" led to another favorite!

Blogging for Scrapbookers, Prompt #1 & 2

Hello any new Blogging for Scrapbooking readers out there!
Please feel free to follow me, or subscribe in Google Reader.
I hope to post regularly for this class and will always start the post off with the class blog button. I also will label all of my posts with the class name, so you can search the label over on the lower right-hand side of my blog.

I loved reading Prompt 1.
And 2 for that matter! :)

It totally meshed with my New Year's resolution to start a private blog to record photos and journaling so I wouldn't forget the moments I wanted to later scrapbook!!

So reading that idea in print has given me the courage to renew that resolution...yes, I've already slacked on that one b/c I'm also doing Project Life and have a private blog for that also. I've been updating it daily. It's been so fun, I've just been keeping up with that.
But with this new class, I hope to be more persistent about uploading the photos I take b/c they are recording that special moment, and also typing up the journaling to match. I have so many ideas in my head even now as I type! (the picture above I found on Flickr seems to capture that feeling!). I hope it will be come as habitual as Project Life has turned out to me.

The reason my scrapbooking and Project Life blogs are private is that I'm relatively new to blogging, and I'm just not comfortable posting pictures of my family and friends on a public blog.

As you can see, though, I do share photos that don't reveal a person other than moi!
Bear with me!! :)

Blogging for scrapbookers class!

I've been seeing information all around blog land on this class and finally was officially enabled over on Melissa's blog!

I've already learned a few things about Google Reader than I didn't know before. Things that will enable my blog surfing/bookmarking
to be more efficient.
Cool beans!

I'm slowly but surely going to add everyone from this class to my "Scrapbooking for Bloggers" Google folder.

A "no internet" kind of day

I love Project Life by Becky Higgins

Today's picture,

I'm slowly catching up after a day with NO internet. While I didn't get anything computer related done, I'm here to say I got a whole lot of HOUSEWORK done!
Things like shampooing my living room carpet, vacuuming under the dryer, cleaning out a dehumidifier, giving some of my houseplants a shower (battling some sticky mites...), etc, etc. You get the point...just piddly jobs that really needed doing. One job just led to another one. If anyone had been following me around, they would have gotten dizzy!! But I made tons of progress in my housework. Things that have been left neglected lately.

Thanks Becky Higgins

I use Project Life by Becky Higgins

This is what it's all about. Why I love Project Life so much. I'm scrapbooking and I don't even know it...and it's not taking any time at all hardly! I love keeping my private blog for the daily photos and journaling. It makes filling out those journal cards an absolute breeze. Plus I get to share our daily photos with my SIL! :)

And here's my photo and journaling for today:

Today is yet another gray, rainy day. I'm thankful for this vase of tulips on my kitchen window sill. The bright, vibrant color has kept me motivated today while cooking! I'm not much for cut flowers, rather liking to see them in the garden where they belong, but this time of year when they are just barely poking their heads up through the cold, wet ground outside, I need a little color on my window sill!

Wedding card inspiration

This wedding card was inspired by this beautiful card. I've been away from my stamping corner for awhile. It always takes a few tries to get my creativity flowing again, so I was thankful for some inspiration. My niece is having her wedding reception this weekend. We can't attend, so this card and the enclosed gift needs to get in the mail TODAY!!

Week in the Life!

I so super excited to see this announcement! Sure hope it works and we're not gone on vacation or something that week!! I still need to complete last year's WITL, but it will get done. Yes, it's been almost a year...I did it along with Ali for a week in April last year. I've gotten a couple of pages done, but the others should come together pretty quickly. The layouts are all done using her digital templates.

Here's another great link that Ali provided, giving you plenty of info about Week in the Life. It's a great project and I enjoyed participating in it very much.
You're probably wondering how I will journal all about it now, at this late date, but I did plenty of journaling with it!

Project Life daily photo: March 17, Spring sensory stimuli!

I use Project Life by Becky Higgins

Just a little Project Life update!

Today's photo of the day,

I had just made the decision on my walk to not take a picture today, and just insert a journal card. Sometimes a day isn't all about what you see, but more about what you think, feel, or smell! Today the my sensory stimuli were on SPRING overload! It has definitely SPRUNG. The first thing I saw on my walk was the street sweeper. I love when that has made it's pass through all the streets in town. It makes for easier walking; no more slipping on the all the loose stone deposited from the salt/stone/sand mixture that gets spread on our wintery roads. Next, I heard a beautiful mixture of robins, red-wing black birds and grackles singing in the trees and various yards I passed. I also heard the steady flow of water into the various sewer drains. A sure sign of disappearing snow. Then just before I got home, I passed the tall pines that stand between the school and our house. A wonderful pine aroma wafted through the stiff breeze.

But then to my surprise, upon returning home, I SAW this! Crocus are always the first to poke their heads through, and I witnessed the very first one of this group.

Album views,

I love incorporating some 8 1/2" x 11" pages that give a little more detail to my daily photos! The first photo shows some news clips I printed off from all the political upheaval in our state's capitol. The I put in a note that my oldest daughter wrote to me asking if she could go up to a basketball game. She said she would take her little sister. Her little sister then took the note and changed some words around!!

The second photo shows the sheet music from my daughter's solo ensemble, along with her sheets she used to announce what song she was playing, who it was by and why she picked that song. Should be fun for her to look back on.

Craft countdown 3: Pie dish carriers

Here you can see the pie dish inside. It's still hanging on the hook above.

This is what it looks like opened up. The strap going across the middle gets pulled through two tabs, one of which you can see at the bottom of the picture.

This project has been sitting on my project table since last October! I made one for myself back in October when my MIL was visiting and could offer me her sewing expertise as I needed it! She was quite taken with the carrier idea, so, of course, I told her I would make her one. I might be slow, but I do remember what I promised! I found this project in Quick Quilts, #117. I also made her a coordinating card!

Stamps: PTI Friendship Jar, SU Tiny Tags

Paper: SU Cherry Cobbler, PTI Kraft and Ivory

Inks: SU Cherry Cobbler, River Rock, Memento Tuxedo Black

Accessories: PTI Friendship dies, Nesties Labels 14, SU vintage brads, linen thread, fabric, cuttlebug embossing folder

Craft countdown 2: Rag Quilt Totes

Spring is just around the corner, and that always freshly ignites my desire to get things done! I've had quite a full project table all winter. I've made small dents in it, but nothing like has happened recently! I finished up 4 rag quilt totes (you'll notice there are only 3 in the pictures, that's because one is a duplicate to the pink/green one). I think I've made a total of 9 of these now! They go together super easy.

Craft Countdown 1: Flower pins

A penguin flower pin for my penguin-crazed DD1...

Recently I spent a fun day with a friend making some flower pins! There are several sites out there telling you how to make flower things with the new SU flower dies. Here are a couple of sites that I went by somewhat, Patty Stamps and StampShackLady.

My friend also told me about this fun idea, Simply Vintagegirl Blog. To make our red flower, we used some pieces cut from a red slip that my friend found at our thrift store!!! I can't imagine when you would wear a red slip, but maybe that's why it was the thrift store LOL!! Anyway, the technique really makes the edges look cool. Using a tea light, you "melt" the edges and they melt and curl up a bit! I can't wait to wear the red one with my black vest, white shirt and a jean skirt. Cute or what? :)

Doing your own thing

I set out to do the weekly sketch challenge over on SCS and then ended up doing my own thing! Sometimes that's just the way it works, and I kind of like the opportunity to do things my own way to prove to myself that I truly can be creative all on my own!!

More fun over at BPC

Big Picture Classes

Check this fun blog post out and see how many of those papercrafting logo segments you might recognize!!

It's birthday time here and that means it's time to make PENGUINS again!

Once again, we've found some fun penguin treats to make for DD1 to bring in her to class. I told her if we have to do penguins again next year (this has been the 3rd year in a row...the girl is in infatuated with them...), that we'll have to start doing some repeats!!

Other fun penguin treats we've made in the past include:
Cream Cheese Penguins
Penguin cupcakes (1st year)
Penguin cupcakes (last year)

Here are some snippets from my day yesterday.
The idea came from the blog, Our Best Bites.

Upside down penguins, having their bellies and feet added...

white cuppies...

the whole bunch....
the guy in the back looks like he's trying to find a way to escape!!

peeking out...

This one looks a little sad???

Please tell me they look like penguins and not....owls. That's what I keep thinking they kinda' look like...

And one final shot,
Momma' had a little treat in between penguin duty!
No, I didn't care for the penguin goop.
I'm a chocolate girl, but this sure tasted might fine!
I used this frosting recipe.
The cupcake is just a mix. I forgot that I wanted to try this recipe. Scroll down on their page to find the cupcake recipe.
Oh well, there's always a next time.

CASE'd design, different sentiment

It was such a grey day yesterday, and can you believe I even incorporated grey into my card I made LOL! It was that grey out!!
This card is a CASE from Smudges in Time.
I used a couple of PTI sets, one for the flower and one for the sentiment.

From now on, mostly, I'm going to try not adding all the deets about my cards. If you find yourself wondering about something I used, please feel free to leave a comment asking, and I'll respond and look into it. If it's for a specific blog hop or contest, I will, but over all, I stamp purely for the enjoyment of sending a card to make someone else smile. I don't sell any products, nor am I on any design teams that require that I promote product. Basically, I'm also wanting to enable less. Oh boy, I sense this could be a long blog post if I allowed it to be. But I won't because I don't have time to talk to you about all the thoughts I've had running through my mind lately.
Will leave it at that! :)

Friday FIVE

Today's Friday favorites,

1.) This just made me laugh.
My kids don't have a hard time smiling for the camera, but if yours do, check this out!!!

2.) Inspiring quotes:
"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."
-George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

3.) Pioneer 3-up Photo albums, beautifully crafted 3-ring albums to store my recently developed pictures. (see this post!!) This is step one of the LOM class that I'll soon be enrolling in.
4.) View 's Pins on Pinterest
Wow! What an awesome place to store/share your pieces of inspiration!!

5.) New favorite foodie blog, Buns in my Oven.
Don't look if you are dieting.
Evil, rich, and sinful goodies posted on a regular basis!

Pictures galore

I just got my Shutterfly order!!
How many pictures do you think I got developed?

Is this a better gauge?

or is this....

Let me know what your estimate is!

I'll soon be getting these into albums! That huge pile of pictures is in some order, at least from month to month. Will fine-tune it was I get them into the albums.

CAS x2

Stamps: SU Punch Bunch (SAB), PTI Inside & Out birthday sentiment, SU Fresh Fillers

Paper: PTI Kraft, SU Not Quite Navy, Always Artichoke, PTI Ivory

Inks: VersaFine Vintage Sepai, Not Quite Navy

Accessories: Owl & Bird extra large punches, Cuttlebug embossing folder, linen thread, sponge, corner rounder.

This first card I had already in progress, when, after looking at DF's blog, I realize the work in progress may be something that could work with the SCS CAS challenge!! And it does!

Please excuse the quality of my photos if they seem different than they've been. My main camera is out of order until I get a new camera card, which I'm not sure I need to, but I can't wait for the computer guy to look into our main computer issues, so I'll just be getting a new card! I'm using my daughter's point and shoot camera in the meantime. And our little laptop and it's tiny screen which doesn't give me a fair view of quality!!

This second card was made for a "hospitality" thank you!

Stamps: SU Oh, so lovely, Punch Bunch (SAB)
Paper: PTI White, SU Poppy Parade, Basic Black
Inks: Memento Tuxedo black, SU Poppy Parade
Accessories: Poppy Parade ribbon, SU scallop punch, yellow button, SU scallop border punch, Copics
